Description
Delicious cherry pie bars with a sweet and tart cherry filling nestled between layers of buttery, crumbly dough.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 42 ounces cherry pie filling (2 cans)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (add more as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla and almond extract.
- Combine the flour, salt, and other dry ingredients in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
- Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom.
- Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Mix the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk until you reach the desired consistency for the glaze.
- Allow the bars to cool completely, then cut and enjoy!
Notes
Chill the dough for about 30 minutes for better shape. Try using fresh cherries for more vibrant flavor!
